...you actually made a decent film. And produced, wrote, and directed in nonetheless. The film I speak of is entitled Rampage, and while it isn't an amazing movie, it's worth watching.
If you don't know who he is Uwe Boll, is the man who brought us mostly infamous video game to film adaptations such as Farcry, House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, and Alone In The Dark. However, with his latest release, Rampage, he actually does something good. I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that it's his own creation, or the fact that he was tired of being the most hated director working today. Either way, this film works.
It's a basic story of a guy who is tired of seeing the world go to shit and thinks it needs a wakeup call, or population control, whichever you prefer. I won't get into the plot details, but an hour of the hour and a half running time is devoted to people being shot down in the streets with automatic weapons, explosions, and throat cutting. What I like about this movie is it's not trying to be anything more than what it should be. It's not trying to have some elaborate story interwoven into the violence, or a cgi-fest of over the top imagery. People get shot, there's blood, that's all you need to know.
At it's core however, it's a satire on American culture and where we're going today. I'm not saying there's a lot of hidden meanings here, but you don't have to look very deep to come away with that message. This movie is in the vein of Crank or The Expendables, except less over the top, and absent of cheesy wisecracks.
That said, go watch it. It's on Watch Instant on Netflix, so it's not going to take much effort. And hat's off to you Uwe Boll, I almost didn't check it out because your name was attached to it, but the ever-reliable Netflix rating system pushed me over the edge. Here's hoping you crank out more films like this.
